Earlier this week, a woman was inaugurated as Vice President of the United States, the first ever to hold a nationwide elective office. But it was an interesting year for electing women all over the country.

Los Angeles County, California, the largest county in America with a population larger than 41 states, for the first time elected as its governing body, a total female board of supervisors. Closer to home, the City of Asheville, along with its female mayor, elected a city council made up completely of women. We’ll get back to that, but…

Not to be caught unawares, the Trinity View Residents’ Association elected a full complement of women to its membership. While this organization does not hold the might and powers of governmental supervisors and council women, they do have a number of functions important to our residential community.

First in their duties from the bylaws is, to “provide residents an opportunity to influence the environment in which they live,” and another is to “allow residents a forum to express themselves, voice needs, and concerns, and state opinions.” They meet once a month to discuss the issue brought to their attention. The meetings are open to all residents.

The 2021 organizational meeting of the residents’ association occurred this month with the first task the election of new officers. Back to the Asheville City Council, and it is relevant. In 1969, one Barbara Keleher was the first woman ever elected to the Asheville City Council. It seems fitting that the new president of the all women Trinity View Residents’ Association would be one Susan Keleher Evans, the oldest daughter of Asheville’s pioneering civic leader. Susan is not the first woman elected, but the most recent. Evelyn Ridenhour, who departed her life earlier this month and was the mother of Pastor Steve, served several terms as president.

We menfolk can sit back and relax, the world is in good hands.
