Are you getting enough exercise? I’ve heard the secret of a long life has something to do with keeping fit. Full disclosure: I’m not a doctor and don’t even play one in my wildest dreams, but I keep appointments with a whole slew of them. And I’m really keen on exercise and wish I did enough!

Trinity View residents find different opportunities to keep moving. Some walk outside enjoying the natural short hiking paths behind the building. Others walk around our living quarters taking advantage of the full quarter mile around the site while I see folks like 99 year-old Albert Sharke frequently walking the third floor halls passing all the way to my apartment. If there’s music, you will see Shirley Hodes, 104 years young, doing dance steps. There must be something to it.

Trinity View offers a little more for us younger folks who want to catch up with these pace setters, two formal exercise programs. In the past there was a fitness teacher who led us in a strength routine and an additional balance class. With the Covid-19 threat, he had to leave, but Susan Evans and Mela Caudill kept the strength exercise going with a small group of the faithful. More recently, a balance class was offered with a professional instructor attracting the maximum 10 people to our exercise room. You are welcome to enjoy either of these groups. Check the calendar. Neither will overwhelm you but rather gently get your body moving.

There is something else you can do if you prefer to exercise in your lonesome. Both of the two programs above and online or recorded programs demonstrate exercises that can easily be done in your room.

Here’s an online program that can be done sitting or standing https://youtu.be/1zyWa3vko6k.

You can check with Jonathan our activity coordinator to provide you with exercise CDs or help you find other personal options. There are also weight machines and barbells in the exercise room for the hardy and hefty.

We get a wonderful, tasty, healthy diet here at Trinity View, and several times a week we get to exercise our elbows at happy hour and snack time, but to balance our lives, we need a little more. Exercise! Live longer and happier!
