Football season is on again, and here at Trinity View the excitement is high.

This most important college game of the season so far comes up Saturday, between the traditional rivals of Georgia and Tennessee. Why these two here in Western North Carolina? Well for starters we are closer to the Athens (Ga) and Knoxville (Tenn) than we are to the major in-state football teams in Raleigh and Chapel Hill.

But closer to home, our Executive, Sharon Conoley, and yours truly got our undergraduate and graduate degrees, respectively, at UGA, as it is affectionately known. Our Residents’ Association president and his spouse, Hugh and Mela Caudill, graduated from the University of Tennessee.

Their mascots are one really UGly dog and some scruffy fellow in a mountain settlers suit, a Volunteer. We’ll be singing Glory, “Glory to Old Georgia”, interestingly enough to the tune of a Union civil war marching song. General Sherman would be pleased.

The opposition will be singing, “High on Rocky Top”, where they always seem to wish they’d be after playing Georgia.

So how’s the betting going? The odds are that at least four people are going to be glued to CBS. The rest of our residents and staff are sympathetic folk, very willing to commiserate with the losers. Never mind, whatever the outcome, there are no losers at Trinity view.
